Excerpt From Foreword

by Michael Bernard Beckwith

Who am I, and where am I going? You are the answer to this question. You are here to ask the question, and to be the answer. Using the very stuff of your everyday life is a potent place to begin a conscious experience of awakening. You are at a choice-point in every moment of each circumstance, each activity, spoken word and thought. Stepping into the moment with an awakened mind removes the tension from choice-making. Wakefulness causes each moment to be fresh, each choice to be made as though for the first time with utmost clarity, with discernment of mind. Then we become co-creators of our life with its very Source-That which simply Is.

This is not to deny that our daily routine is filled with repetition from our morning rituals to getting our children to school on time, to our professional life, to praying and meditating. But each time we bring to those routine activities an awareness of "now," we raise our vibratory frequency and cause the freshness of the moment to fall upon us."

Right now, as you read these words, the Call is upon you. It is nudging you. Love is nudging you right now. Compassion is seeking to come through your heart today. There is within you a soul-hunger to glow with the radiance of the awakened Self. You and your choice-points to merge to form the answer to your question: Who am I and where am I going?

Having chosen this book to read is a reasonable indicator that you are even now facing a choice-point in your life. And you want your choice to be a conscious one, an enlightened one that will lead you out of the labyrinth of suffering whether its mental, emotional, spiritual, existential-whatever the urgency and craving for relief. In life there are no hiding places. No exits. Having run the gauntlet of hiding from life as it Is, isn't it time to step out and surrender to the call to be the Life that is your authentic Self, and thereby express your authentic Purpose on the planet?

In The Art of Being, Dr. Jones generously, gently and powerfully offers the gifts of his own journey. He has taken the universal truths of the New Thought-Ancient Wisdom tradition of spirituality and shown their relevance to the challenges we face in twenty-first century living. Most importantly, the spiritual brilliance of his own intimate experiences on the path to waking up unfolds for the reader a transformative understanding that inspires the soul into action. May this book be for you a special friend, an introduction to the Power and Presence of that which we call God, the very Essence that invites you to be you."
